A lovely honeysuckle vine (Lonicera) is growing up our dog pen. I love honeysuckle, it smells wonderful and is a beautiful vine. According to Gaia's Garden (the premiere home-scale permaculture book available on the market today), honeysuckle is a good plant for the vining layer that attracts beneficial insects (such as bees and butterflies) and wildlife (such as humming birds).
I often find our girls hanging around some honeysuckle this time of year. It grows wild all over the place, especially at the edge of the woods. I love that we have some growing up outbuildings and even up the back of our satellite dish. Many gardeners work hard to grow honeysuckle. We are fortunate to have such a healthy wild crop.
